Your Child’s First Dental Visit
Leading dental organizations, including the American Dental Association (ADA) and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), recommend scheduling your child’s first dental appointment by their first birthday—or within six months of the first tooth erupting. This early introduction to a “dental home” allows your dentist to check tooth development, bite alignment, and gum health right from the start.
Establishing care early helps children become comfortable with dental visits and gives parents the opportunity to learn proper oral hygiene techniques tailored to their child’s age. For helpful tips, see our oral health blog articles on preparing children for their first appointment.
